Place a Hold

You can place holds in the online catalog, on the app, over the phone, or in person. The Library will call or email you when items are available for pickup. You need your library card number or user name and password to request a title.

CAFÉ Libraries Online

Place Holds

  1. Visit CAFÉ Libraries Online.
  2. Select My Account to log in.
  3. Search the catalog for an item.
  4. Select Place A Hold to the right of the item in the search results list.
  5. Select the Pickup Library where you want to pick up the requested item.
  6. Select an Activation Date for the hold. Hold requests can be activated at a future time.
  7. Select Submit Request.
  8. If other requests are active for the same title, you will see a message that tells you how many requests have been placed before yours. Select Continue to place the hold.

Manage Holds

  1. Visit CAFÉ Libraries Online.
  2. Select My Account to log in.
  3. Select Holds.
  4. To cancel one or more requests, select the checkbox by the title and select Cancel Selected Requests, or select Cancel All Requests to cancel all your requests.
  5. To suspend or reactivate a hold, select the checkbox by the title and select Suspend/Reactivate Selected Requests.
  6. Type the date when suspended requests should be reactivated, or type today’s date to reactivate an inactive request. Type the date in the format mm/dd/yyyy.
  7. Select Submit.
  8. To change the pickup library, select the checkbox by the title and select Change Pickup Location.
  9. To see more information about a particular request, select the blue information icon by the request. Detailed information about the request is displayed.

Place Holds

App hold request

  1. Select Search the Catalog from the home screen or the magnifying glass icon on the bottom toolbar.
  2. Enter a keyword, title, or author in the search bar.
  3. Select the item you want to request. You will see the item’s details, including the libraries that own the title.
  4. Select Request Item.
  5. Choose the user you want to place the hold for (if you have multiple accounts connected to the app), the library you want to pick it up from, and the copy you prefer.
  6. Select Place a Hold.

 

Manage Holds

 

  1. Select My Account or the person icon on the bottom toolbar from the home screen to see hold requests.
  2. Select My Holds.
  3. Select the hold item to change then select Manage Selection.
  4. Choose an option:
    • Cancel Holds
    • Freeze Holds
    • Unfreeze Holds

Hold Statuses

  • Active - The item hold has been placed but is not available yet.
  • Pending - The item is available at another library but has not been pulled yet.
  • Shipped - The item has been sent from another library but has not arrived at the pickup library yet.
  • Held - The item is currently available for pickup.
  • Inactive - The hold has an activation date in the future.
  • Not Supplied - There are no items available to fill the hold.
  • Unclaimed - The hold was not picked up and has expired.
  • Canceled - The hold has been canceled. Contact the Library if you would like to reactivate the hold.
