Bulletin Board & Display Case Policy

Bulletin Board & Distribution of Material

Space permitting, the Library will post announcements and/or pamphlets from outside organizations. The bulletin board and pamphlet stand are the only locations in the Library where the Library Board permits sharing such material.

The following guidelines apply:

  • Authorized Library staff must approve all material before it is posted or displayed.
  • Only authorized Library staff members may post or remove material from the bulletin board or pamphlet stand. 
  • Items will remain posted at the discretion of the Library, and subject to limits of space. 
  • The Library will retain material left for approval for five days if not approved, during which time the material may be picked up.

The following types of material are not permitted:

  • Those that proselytize or promote a religious point of view. Neutral material from religious institutions
    may be permitted, such as those promoting activities at religious institutions.
  • Those that promote political parties, positions, or candidates.
  • Those that advocate a position on a public issue.
  • Announcements or advertisements of fundraising activities or membership/subscription drives. Library
    staff may make an exception for one-time fundraising events.
  • Announcements or advertisements by for-profit organizations, unless they will stimulate Library use or
    relate directly to the Library’s mission.
  • Advertisements for employment opportunities.
  • Legal notices.

Display Cases

The Library provides two display cases for non-commercial use by non-profit organizations and government
agencies.

The following guidelines apply:

  • Display cases are scheduled in one-month intervals, up to a year in advance. Authorized Library staff will
    decide upon the acceptability and appropriateness of exhibits when necessary.
  • The Library reserves the right to reject all or part of any display.
  • The Library assumes no responsibility for the preservation, protection, or possible damage or theft of any item displayed. All parties displaying items at the Library do so at their own risk.
  • Displays must contribute to and not detract from the general appearance of the Library.
  • The Library Board does not endorse the viewpoints of displays. Each display case shall include a disclaimer to this effect.
  • It is the responsibility of the group using the display case to set up and remove the exhibits at scheduled times.
