Public Access to Records Policy

The Board of Trustees of the Oconomowoc Public Library is a record-keeping authority as defined in §19.33, Wisconsin Statutes. The Library Director is the legal custodian for the Library Board and for any committee or sub-unit thereof, and its records. Should the Director be unavailable, the Administrative Coordinator will serve as deputy custodian.

Library records are retained at the Oconomowoc Public Library, 200 W. South St., Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, and are available Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, excluding holidays and other posted closures.

Subject to reasonable restrictions, any person has a right to inspect any existing record and to make or receive a copy of existing records that are not deemed exempt from inspection or disclosure, pursuant to §19.36 and §43.30(1m), Wisconsin Statutes.

A request to inspect or copy a record shall be made to the legal custodian. A request shall be deemed sufficient if it reasonably describes the requested record or the information requested. However, a request for a record without a reasonable limitation as to subject matter or length of time represented by the record does not constitute a sufficient request. A request may be made orally, but a request must be in writing before an action to enforce the request is commenced under §19.37, Wisconsin Statutes. If a written request is denied in whole or in part, the requestor will receive a written statement describing the reasons for denying the request.

A requestor may be charged a fee to defray the cost of locating and copying records, pursuant to §19.35(3), Wisconsin Statutes.

Public records access procedures are further specified in §3.07(4)-(6) of the City of Oconomowoc Municipal Code.

Pursuant to §19.34(1), Wisconsin Statutes, the Library shall prominently display this notice.
